CARROTS OF COURSE!

Did you know that carrots were not originally orange? Prince William of Orange ordered carrots to be grown orange, as the story goes…

Don’t you think all of the above attributes are amazing for one vegetable? So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get growing…

Make sure the ground that you plant your carrot seeds in directly, is very well drained and not too rich in nitrogen. Nitrogen will give you wonderful carrot fronds, but you want the roots to be the major part of this plant. Don’t plant seeds too closely together, as you’ll have to thin the seedlings out as there won’t be enough space for your carrots to grow. Use a Magic Seeder to make direct sowing easier and more controlled – as the seeds are very small.

If you enjoy tasty carrot fronds you can grow them from the leafy end of the carrot. Simply place in shallow water to grow on a sunny windowsill. They taste just like carrots and make a pretty addition to your salads.
