HOW TO PREPARE YOUR GARDEN FOR SUMMER

Yoksel Zok | Gardenshop

When winter starts to fade into spring, the inside of your home isn’t the only place that needs some attention.

Alongside your spring cleaning regime, it’s also time to think about some basic gardening jobs that will help get your garden ready for the summer months.

Whether you’re a keen gardener or you’re just starting out, these are some simple tips that will help you enjoy your garden during the warmer seasons:

  • Clean your gardening tools
  • Tidy your flower beds and borders
  • Get rid of weeds
  • Start treating fruit trees for fruitfly once you have 80% petal drop
  • Cut back overgrown shrubs and and other plants
  • Gert that compost heap started
  • Dig in thoses summer annuals and bulbs for colour
  • Give your patio a spring clean
  • Treat your garden furniture
  • Clean and repair your bird feeders
  • Mulch
  • Feed your flower beds and lawn
  • Adjust watering times

Not all of our summer gardening tips are for the benefit of your garden – this one is for you. To help beat the heat, make sure you create a few shaded spots for your outdoor furniture. Planting trees is a pretty, natural way to cool down your garden. Alternatively, you can erect an umbrella or awning to give yourself some relief from the sun’s rays.
