FIVE MUST HAVE HERBS FOR YOUR GARDEN!

NO KITCHEN GARDEN IS COMPLETE WITHOUT THESE HERBS

Herbs can add a lot of flavour to your cooking and make ordinary recipes more exciting. Fresh herbs are especially flavorful and can be grown in your own garden for a continuous supply. Here are five herbs that are essential for any home cook:

  1. Parsley: This herb has a refreshing taste and is rich in vitamin C. It’s best to add parsley to dishes just before serving or as a raw ingredient because extended cooking can cause it to lose flavor and vitamin C.
  2. Rosemary: This herb is great for adding flavor to meat dishes. It’s an attractive perennial plant and has several health benefits, including antioxidant properties. Longer cooking times will bring out the flavor of rosemary.
  3. Mint: Mint is perfect for adding flavor to puddings, cocktails, and roast lamb with mint sauce. It’s easy to grow and does well in slightly shady, moist conditions.
  4. Basil: This annual herb is a must-have for Italian dishes. It’s best used fresh and just before serving. To have a fresh supply of basil in the winter, make pesto or freeze chopped basil in ice cubes.
  5. Fennel: This herb adds a great flavor to fish dishes and can also be used as a vegetable. Steamed fennel bulbs with a butter and lemon drizzle make a tasty side dish. Dried fennel seeds are often used in Asian cooking. Just be aware that fennel is not a good companion plant, as the roots release chemicals that can kill other plants. It’s best to plant fennel in a pot or in a separate area.

Overall, these five herbs are must-haves for any home cook. They can add flavor and excitement to a wide range of dishes and can be easily grown in your own garden. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different herbs and combinations to find the flavors that you love the most. Happy cooking!
