Garden Thyme

Thymus vulgaris

Thymus vulgaris or Garden Thyme. A herbaceous perennial that is primarily grown for culinary use. It is categorized as a subshrub due to its bushy form and semi-woody base. Garden Thyme has small purple to white flowers that appear in late spring to early summer. It is native to southern Europe and northern Africa where it prefers full sun and well-drained soils.

Common thyme is a low-maintenance herb but has a tendency to spread. To reduce woody growth, it should be cut back in early spring.
